Excerpt from
Christmas

In this story the right-behind-me-dog and his friends help Father Christmas deliver his presents on time.

The clock on the mantelpiece chimed 11 o’ clock.  It was Christmas Eve and outside, through the gently falling  snow, not a sound could be heard in the still air.

Inside, the Under-my-feet cat and the Right-behind-me dog were curled up together in their large wicker basket in front of the dying embers of the kitchen fire.

Hanging from the mantelpiece above their heads were the children’s stockings waiting to be filled by Father Christmas.

‘I wonder if there really is a Father Christmas?’ said the cat.

‘Oh,’ said the Right-behind-me dog, ‘I am sure of it, actually, I know for a fact that there is.’  He paused for dramatic effect. ‘I have met him!! Would you like me to tell you all about it?’
The cat refused to get excited.  She was used to his shaggy dog stories but, nonetheless,  she settled down to listen to  his tale just the same.
This is what he told her.
