The right-behind-me-dog helps some orphaned chicks to find a new home.

That afternoon the dog was woken up by the under-my-feet cat gently patting him on the nose. He opened one eye and looked at her.

    ‘ What is it?’
    ‘ I think you had better take a look for yourself,’ she whispered.
 The right-behind-me dog slowly became aware of a new and unusual noise in the kitchen. 
 At first he could not identify it but when he opened the other eye and focused them both properly he stared in amazement.
Running around the kitchen cheeping a the tops of their voices were six little chicks.
    ‘Oh heavens,’ said the dog, ‘where did they come from?’
    ‘I couldn’t possibly imagine! said the cat sarcastically.
    ‘What on earth are we going to do?’ wailed the dog. ‘ I am totally discombobulated!!’

    ‘We?’ echoed the cat ‘you are going to find a home for them before they all drive us mad with their cheeping. So just undiscombobulate yourself right now!’
